Not a good weekend to give up an addiction

August 31, 2008

As a lot of you know, I’m a coffee drinker.   For YEARS now, I’ve had to start my morning with at least 20-24 oz. of coffee.  If I didn’t, I had no energy, couldn’t really function well and would have a headache by late morning.  In a way my addiction was one more step in the morning that would delay me.  I’d have to stop at Wawa before work or somehow get the coffee or make it.  But I would do these things in order to be able to function.

For the past month or so, I’ve been dedicated to lose weight.  (which I have, about 16-17 lbs.)  Then I was reading on-line about this idea of how green tea helps the body in so many ways.  The Chinese have always drank it and believe that it helps the immune system, helps keep weight off, etc.  Well there was a doctor on Oprah who was talking about this new product called Ultra Lean Green Tea.  I didn’t actually watch the show, but read an article that was titled something like, “Switch from coffee to Ultra Lean Green Tea and lose weight”.  This sparked my interest!  The article went on to say that there are so many chemicals in coffee that do bad things to us.  One was that it raises the insulin in our bodies and causes us to be more hungry.  There was a link for a “free” 30 day supply, so I decided to give it a try.

The green tea, which you actually mix with a cold water bottle, came this past week.  On Wednesday I made the switch from coffee to this green tea.  It comes in different flavors and tastes pretty good.  If you don’t like sugar-free drinks like Crystal Lite, you may not like the taste.   The first couple days I had slight headaches and had to take tylenol.  I took at least a 30 minute nap every day, as the afternoons were hard.  Over the past couple days I could almost “feel” the chemicals leaving me.  I’ve been a little more irritable than usual, but I think I’m finally through it!  NO MORE COFFEE!

As this change was hard enough, it probably wasn’t the best timing to start.  My work has been VERY busy lately!  I’ve been put on a project that has to be completed in a couple months vs. the usualy 6-10 months.  So me and another programmer have been working lots of overtime.  I’ve been working since Thursday and will be working into Monday (Labor Day).  On top of that, Steve’s working this entire weekend. (Fri, Sat and Sun)  So as it’s been a really good change for me, it’s been quite the tough one!

Overall, I’m really proud of myself.  It was a hard change, but I’m never going back!  And I’ll let ya know how this green tea works.

(btw – if your interested, the free sample isn’t exactly free but I found a way to not pay full price. Looks like it’ll be about $35/month)

Two funnies…

August 31, 2008
  1. We were sitting at the dinner table the other night (me and the kids), and sometimes the kids will ask if they can say prayer before dinner.  This night Chase had asked.  He’s too cute when he prays because he squeezes his eyes shut as hard as he can.  Then, when he starts to pray he’ll say, “thank you for the food”, but then he usually gets stuck on what to say next.  So he’ll mumble something we can’t hear or just say a couple words.  Well this particular night, he said, “thank you for the food” and then was taking quite a  while to say anything else.  So being the not so patient brother, Julian exclaims loudly while firmly putting his fists on the table, “I don’t have time for this!!”  HAHAHA!

  3. The other day I was sitting at my computer (hours of work) and it was right after nap.  I heard Chase on the porch playing and then as I hear him coming towards me, I hear crinkling sounds of a bag.  I knew he must have found some sort of snack in the cupboard on the porch.  As he comes into the dinning room, he has his hands behind his back and he looks at me with this suspicious smile.  Before I can say anything, he says loudly, “Nothing Mommy!!”  HAHAHAHA!  I could not help but just laugh out loud!  He could use a little work on the poker face.
